Plumtree Wants Nonu RUGBY

Sharks coach John Plumtree has revealed at a press conference in Wellington that he has his sights set on the New Zealand player Ma’a Nomu.

Apparently the coach and the player met on Thursday to discuss the possibility of the move although nothing is set in stone as yet.

According Rugby Heaven’s Hamish Bidwell, Nonu is highly sought after since it was revealed that the Hurricanes would not be renewing his contract to play for them next season.

"Next year? Maybe not next year. But we want to hook up at some stage," Plumtree from the Intercontinental Hotel. "He's on my wish-list and you don't get rid of that wish-list too early."

Despite Plumtree’s optimism he does realise that getting Nomu to move to South Africa is a big challenge.

"Ma'a still wants to play for the All Blacks and that's still an incentive, isn't it? And he's got a young family and it's not easy to pick up a young family and take them to South Africa.”

Plumtree went on to add that Nomu ensured that he didn’t leave empty handed after the meeting, “I've got some nice pauas (abalone) here from Ma'a," said the coach. "He's dropped them off. They're all legal size and there's not too many. You're allowed 10, aren't ya?”
